Harmonization of laws relating to persons with disabilities under the UN Convention on the Rights of PWDs and EDS (European Disability Strategy 2010-2020)

The overall objective of the project is to create stimulating conditions for increasing the participation of civil society organizations and associations of persons with disabilities in monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities in the region, as well as the impact of legal acts in accordance with the applicable standards of the European Union on human rights and the principles set in the EDS, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities and Optional Protocol.
Through the implementation of project activities project partners will address the following specific issues:
- The low level of public awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities and the role and importance of the UNCRPD and EDS
- Low level of awareness of the importance of the legal framework relating to the rights of persons with disabilities
- Poor or non-existent institutional, organizational and technical capacity of the entity and national governments to address issues of harmonization of laws in accordance UNCRPD principles,
- Poor or non-existent ties and cooperative relations between the organizations of persons with disabilities in the Region
